Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Paperclipper, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use Paperclipper.

Description of the Service

Paperclipper is a Chrome extension operated by Harborside Apps. It detects citation metadata on supported research pages, saves paper records in a local browser library, looks for legitimate open PDF routes, and exports citation data in formats such as BibTeX and RIS.

Paperclipper does not provide or promise access to gated publications. Availability of papers and PDF routes depends on publishers, repositories, authors, and third-party services.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old and legally able to agree to these terms to use Paperclipper.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Paperclipper for an illegal purpose or to infringe intellectual-property rights.
• Use Paperclipper to bypass paywalls, access controls, or other restrictions.
• Interfere with or disrupt the extension, website, or third-party services.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems or information.
• Use automated systems to abuse Paperclipper or services it contacts.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute Paperclipper except where applicable law permits it.

Third-Party Sites and Services

Paperclipper can read information from and link to third-party publishers, repositories, DOI services, arXiv, and Unpaywall. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, terms, or privacy practices.

Paperclipper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the publishers, repositories, or research services referenced by the extension unless expressly stated.

Your Content and Local Data

You are responsible for the labels, notes, citation edits, and other information you add to your local library. You are also responsible for maintaining any backups you require. Removing the extension, clearing browser data, browser errors, or device loss may cause local information to be lost.

Intellectual Property

Paperclipper's software, branding, interface, and original content are owned by Harborside Apps or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Citation metadata and linked research content remain subject to the rights of their respective owners.

Availability and Changes

Paperclipper is an early-stage service. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time. We do not guarantee support for every page, publisher, browser configuration, citation field, export, or PDF route.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Paperclipper is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that extracted metadata or exports are complete or accurate, that an open PDF will be found, or that the service will always be available or error-free. You should verify citations before relying on them in academic or professional work.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Harborside Apps will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, research, profits, or opportunities arising from your use of Paperclipper. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Termination

You may stop using Paperclipper at any time by removing the extension. We may restrict access to the website or future services where reasonably necessary to address misuse, legal requirements, or risk to Paperclipper or others.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as Paperclipper changes. Revised terms will be posted here with a new last-updated date. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Applicable consumer protections remain unaffected.
